guglSOUNDmap

The starting point of this sound research project was the small village Guglwald, situated in the northern Mühlviertel region of Upper Austrian near the border between Austria and Czech Republic. The key aim was to detect and represent the individual sound characteristics of this region and to raise acoustic awareness of the close relationship between people and their audible environment. The digital guglSOUNDmap includes numerous audio and visual files which can be discovered by users.

Clicking the red balloon buttons will open an info window with sound and image examples from that particular place. Through listening and looking at the material provided, the user can explore the region and discover interesting places. The guglSOUNDmap concept was developed as part of an artist-in-residence stay at the Hotel Guglwald in August 2009. The guglSOUNDmap was realized using the Google Map API.
